LMT Custom Homes — going green commitment
NAHB Certified Green Professional · LMT Custom Homes LLC

David Gordon is an NAHB Certified Green Professional — a designation the National Association of Home Builders awards to builders who incorporate green building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction. That distinction matters to LMT clients: green performance is engineered in from the plans, not added as an expensive option after the fact. The classwork behind the designation provides a solid background in green building, as well as the tools to reach consumers, from the organization leading the charge to provide market-driven green building solutions to the home building industry.

When you build with LMT, you get an Energy Star certified home — independently tested and rated by a Home Energy Rater — at the same construction cost as a conventional build.

Green Building Commitment

Every LMT Home Is Certified Green — Solar, Insulation, Windows, HVAC

LMT Custom Homes LLC has the knowledge and resources for any energy efficient project. From solar panels to Dow Styrofoam structural insulated sheathing, every system is specified for performance before the foundation is poured. LMT is a certified green builder by the National Association of Home Builders, a Building America challenge participant, and an Energy Star certified builder — with every completed home 100% committed to that standard.

The result is a home that costs less to heat, cool, and power than a conventionally built house of the same size — for the life of the home. That is why prospective clients building in Avon, Simsbury, Canton, and the wider Farmington Valley choose LMT.

What Energy Star Certification Means for Your Home

Every LMT home is certified by a Home Energy Rater (HER) — an Energy Star certified independent agent who scores the home's efficiency with a HERS index before you move in. That score is your proof: energy efficiency designed in from the planning stages and tested to certify it meets the standard.

ENERGY STAR qualified products and practices help you save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE. The ENERGY STAR label also designates superior energy performance in homes and buildings. When you compare LMT's HERS index against a conventionally built home, the difference is not abstract — it shows up on every heating and cooling bill.

Building Systems

The Building Systems Behind Every LMT Green Home

Windows

Every LMT home uses low-E, argon-filled windows and patio doors — insulation values 50% better than standard double pane glass. Low-E glass works like sunblock for your home and furniture: it keeps heat in during winter, out during summer, and blocks the UV light that fades carpets and furnishings. Energy-efficient frames complete the system, so the window is sealed against the elements, not just the glass.

Insulation

LMT homes are estimated to be 45% better insulated than current International Residential Code standards. Fiberglass insulation provides R21 exterior walls and R40 ceilings; every thermal bypass location is sealed against air leakage. The result is even temperatures throughout the house, reduced energy use, and lower utility bills year-round. An Energy Star inspector verifies the insulation and sealing, and every LMT home passes a blower door test as part of the Energy Star certification process — so you have independent proof, not just a builder's promise.

Appliances

Refrigerators, freezer drawers, and dishwashers in LMT homes are always Energy Star rated. ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators use up to 40 percent less energy than conventional models sold in 2001 and at least 15 percent less than models built to current federal standards — high-efficiency compressors, improved insulation, and more precise temperature and defrost mechanisms. ENERGY STAR qualified freezers use at least 10 percent less energy than required by current federal standards. ENERGY STAR qualified dishwashers use at least 41 percent less energy than the federal minimum standard. Across the full appliance package, that adds up to 10 to 50 percent less energy used than standard — every year, for the life of the home.

HVAC

LMT HVAC systems are multi-zone hydro-air systems built around the Energy Star rated Weil-McLain Ultra 230 — a 93% AFUE natural gas boiler with outdoor reset for optimal gas usage (standard gas boilers run at 82% efficient). The 16 SEER air conditioning units use ozone-responsible R410A refrigerant, meriting the U.S. EPA's most stringent environmental ratings — 12% more efficient than standard code-compliant units.

Sheet metal trunk lines are sealed with mastic and wrapped with insulation to prevent air leakage. Humidifiers protect the home during the heating cycle. Air cleaners remove particles down to three microns, eliminating allergens and pollutants from indoor air. An indirect Superstor hot water storage tank uses heat from the efficient boiler to provide hot water quickly and inexpensively. Every LMT HVAC system undergoes a duct pressure test as part of the Energy Star certification process — independent verification that the system performs to spec.

Lighting

LMT homes use ENERGY STAR Certified LED bulbs in fixtures wherever possible — lower operating temperatures, less heat generated, and direct savings on air conditioning costs compared to standard incandescent bulbs.

  • Use about 70–90% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs
  • Last at least 15 times longer and can save about $55 in electricity costs over its lifetime
  • Meet strict quality and efficiency standards that are tested by accredited labs and certified by a third party
  • Produce about 70% less heat, so it’s safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling

Siding

Many LMT homes use CertainTeed prefinished fiber cement siding — low-toxicity raw materials (wood pulp, cement, sand, and water recycled up to 4 times), factory-baked Colormax finish, and a 15-year finish warranty. Prefinished materials reduce on-site painting and contaminants; longer-lasting materials reduce replacement and maintenance costs for the life of the home. Durability is a green-building principle as much as insulation: what does not need to be replaced does not consume resources to replace.

Framing

Floor joists are Boise Alljoists, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) compliant and 50% stronger than dimension lumber with half the wood fiber. Subfloor material is Huber AdvanTech (SFI); wall sheathing is Huber Zip System (SFI) — both chosen for air and moisture resistance that promotes a tightly sealed building envelope. LMT Custom Homes LLC monitors new developments in energy conservation and is committed to incorporating them in all future LMT homes.
